The idea behind Gydja Collection came up when the founder and head designer, Sigrun Lilja Gudjonsdottir, was in Egypt 6 years ago. She stumbled upon an exciting leather store that proved to be supported by a large factory that produced all of the pieces in the store. Inspired by the experience, Sigrún Lilja designed a pair of boots and a hand-bag that matched the boots, and got the owner of the store to produce them. It turned out to be a success amongst all of her friends and few months later she decided to design a whole line of accessories.

This fateful visit to Egypt really marks the beginning of Gydja Collection. The name Gydja means Goddess in Icelandic and name is traced to Egypt, where the adventure began. Sigrún Lilja got the idea of EFJ Eyjafjallajokull in April 2010 when Eyjafjallajökull erupted. Perfume had always been on Gydja’s “to-do list” but when the volcano awoke, she got the idea of involving these powerful natural forces with the perfume. Sigrún has always been a fan of the Icelandic nature and has always wished that people around the world could experience and enjoy these powers themselves The scent has everything to offer, it is both fresh with citrus, sweet with vanilla and elegant with sandal wood, it is light enough to be easily carried every day and it is also powerful enough to carry the name of Eyjafjallajökull. Gydja decided to add “EFJ” to the name of Eyjafjallajökull for pronunciation sake. As most foreigners know, it can be quite hard to pronounce “Eyjafjallajokull.” EFJ Eyjafjallajökull was a great success and a number of requests came for developing a fragrance for men. When the powerful Vatnajökull erupted in 2011, Sigrun immediately made VJK Vatnajökull a priority. Sigrun wanted a name synonymous with strength and power, and seeing as Vatnajokull is the largest glacier in Europe she thought the name fitted perfectly. Sigrun Lilja true passion and inspiration is the raw and untouched Icelandic nature. She believes in the Icelandic natures mystical powers and is committed to give people around the world an opportunity to embrace this unique energy.
